Welcome to FALL 2025 RECREATIONAL SEASON!

UPDATE FOR FALL 2025

Starting Fall 2025 Albany-Berkeley Soccer League is moving to SCHOOL GRADE YEAR DIVISIONS for recreational teams.

(competitive teams move to school grade years in 2026/2027 soccer year)

By organizing teams by grade instead of birth year, players will now be grouped with the peers they see every day at school—which we believe will lead to even stronger team chemistry, more fun, and a greater sense of connection.

PROGRAM FORMAT

THIS REGISTRATION LINK IS FOR THE RECREATIONAL PROGRAM and our RECREATIONAL PROGRAM IS BASED ON VOLUNTEER PARENT PARTICIPATION.

NOTE: ALL our Elite Competitive Program teams have a dedicated professional coach. Entry into our Competitive program requires a TRYOUT (held in MAY).

90% of recreational program players around the world train with a volunteer parent coach, and ABSC is a non-profit that also relies on volunteers.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

Teams signed up to play with volunteer coaches are expected to have:

PARENT Volunteers:

are vetted, background checked, and supported with training and equipment.
are asked to complete the online Grassroots Coaching License (fees reimbursed by ABSC), SafeSport Certificate, and CDC Concussion in Sport certificate.
receive their $100 deposit refunded at the end of the season if all certification requirements have been met.

IMPORTANT: If your team does not have parents who wish to coach, there are options:

Option A - A dedicated TRAINER is assigned for practices at additional cost per player ($75 or $150). A parent coaches games.
Option B - A COACH is assigned to your team for both practice and games at additional cost per player ($180 or $250).*
Option C - The team may decide to disband.

*fee depends on whether the team practices once or twice per week

You are able to opt for a professional coach at registration (with additional coach fee) but there are limited places on such teams.

If you are not sure, select the "volunteer coach" option. We can adjust this after registration if you change your mind.

LOCATION: U6-U10 Teams play in-house on local Berkeley and Albany fields.

GOOD TO KNOW:

UNIFORMS: U4- U10 purchase REVERSIBLE uniforms at registration (if you do not already have one) and check our SIZING Guide on our website under "resources" here.
Shin guards and soccer cleats are purchased on your own, separately.

If you intend to apply for our year-round Competitive Travel Program, please attend May Tryouts.

REMINDER:

You have an option at registration to sign up for a team with an ABSC professional coach at extra cost.

The majority of teams have volunteer parent coaches and there are a limited number of teams with an ABSC professional coach in the Recreational program.

In contrast, all Competitive Program teams have a professional coach.
